Our guide to importing seeds into Australia
Dear Australian Gardeners,
We hope the following explaination will help you in deciding whether you can or cannot purchase seeds for importation into Australia.
The importation of living plant material is controlled by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS). The have produced an online facility to check if a plant is permitted or banned. We are sorry but, if a plant is not listed on their database - it is not permitted - and some of ours are quiet rare, so may be missing from their lists..
What do you have to do?
Before ordering on our database - please check the species you are allowed using the AQIS website: http://www.aqis.gov.au/icon32/asp/ex_querycontent.asp
USING THEIR WEBSITE: When you get to the search screen you will find three fields. Where it says "Commodity" type in the genus name only. So, for example, for Echium wildpretii - just type in the word "Echium". "From Country" select "United Kingdom". "for end use" - select "seeds for sowing".
You are able to import seed providing that:
1) Seeds are clean and free of debris. Ours are.
2) Seed packaging is new. Ours are.
3) Each packet contains a single species - so our special mixes are NOT permitted!
4) Each packet must be clearly labeled with the botanical name. Ours are.
5) Total weight of consignment must be less than 100g.
What happens next?
Leave the rest to us - customs will check the package and forward it to your home address (normally within 2-3 weeks).
Hopefully - it's as simple as that!
We thank you and wish you well in growing our seeds.
